Recommended Service Intervals: BMW
BMW vehicles are engineered for performance and longevity, and their maintenance schedules are designed to adapt to your driving style and conditions. Instead of fixed mileage intervals alone, BMW relies on an advanced Maintenance System that uses sensors and algorithms to monitor your vehicle’s condition and alert you when specific services are needed. This approach helps ensure optimal reliability, performance, and safety.
BMW Maintenance System
- Your BMW’s onboard system will display reminders for required services, including engine oil, brake fluid, vehicle checks, and brake pad replacement. The system adapts intervals based on driving habits and conditions, so actual service timing may vary.
Every 10,000 miles or 12 months:
· Engine oil and filter change
· Coolant check/replacement
· Multi-point inspection
Every 20,000 miles:
· Inspect and replace fuel filters (if applicable)
Every 30,000 miles:
· Replace brake fluid (then every 60,000 miles after the first change)
· Replace transmission fluid (manual transmission, if applicable)
Every 60,000 miles:
· Replace engine air filter
· Replace spark plugs
· Inspect and replace brake pads/rotors as needed
· Replace transmission fluid (automatic transmission)
Every 90,000 miles:
· Replace timing belt and hoses (if equipped)
Additional Service Tasks (often combined with oil change):
- Cabin microfilter(s)
- Engine air filter(s)
- Spark plugs
- Remote control key battery
- Final drive oil (for M models)
Special Notes
- BMW M models require a special 1,200-mile break-in service.
- The BMW Ultimate Care Scheduled Maintenance Program covers factory-recommended maintenance for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
- For the most accurate schedule, always refer to your vehicle’s Maintenance Service Display or owner’s manual, as intervals may vary by model and year.
